Alaskan Malamute

Many people think that there’s no difference between a Husky and an Alaskan Malamute, and they couldn’t be more wrong. Although these two breeds looks the same, the differences are many. First, it’s the size. The Alaskan Malamute is a large dog. Forget about getting that dog if you live in an apartment. You will definitely need a big house with a big yard. But the yard has to be fenced in. The Alaskan Malamute is known to be one of the strongest breeds. These dogs can wrestle with their owners, and the men don’t have any chance to win. If that dog gets angry at you, you better hide somewhere out of sight. But you would have to be extremely rude to your friend to get it angry. The Alaskan Malamute is very stubborn and independent. It’s very hard to make them listen to your commands.

Looking After An Alaskan Malamute

Never forget that the breed was bred to pull. So you will have to start teaching your new friend to walk on a leash from its first day at your home. If you don’t take care of that, after only one year, your dog will be pulling you around and it will seem more like the dog brings you out for a walk. The Alaskan Malamute is a very energetic dog. They need a lot of exercise. That is why they need a big fenced yard. Don’t leave them without supervision. If they see something moving, no matter a bird or a cat, they will chase it and try to kill it before they even understand what it is. These dogs are known as predators. The instinct is still in their blood. If you get an Alaskan Malamute, that means it will be your only dog. They are aggressive with other dogs, especially if they are the same sex. The interesting fact about these giants is that they love to be around people. They can never tell the difference between a friend or a stranger.

If you try to pet an Alaskan Malamute the worst you could expect is to get some licking. They aren’t good watch dogs. They will protect their owner, but only if they are sure he’s in real danger. The Alaskan Malamute is a very loyal dog. They need their people. They get close to every person of the family. They love to play with kids, but because of their large size you will need to supervise them all the time. They could push or hurt the little kid accidentally. That’s why they aren’t a good choice for a kid’s pet. These dogs love to eat, and they will eat everything they can get. You need to be very careful how much food they get daily. The overeating can cause problems like vomiting.

The Alaskan Malamute loves to dig holes. They will do anything to get your attention. Their coat is long and you will find fur everywhere, even under the bed. That’s why you need to brush it every day, once or even twice. These dogs are strong, lovely, and friendly. We have just one word to describe them, awesome!
