The Flat Coated Retriever is known as the Peter Pan of the dog world. That dog seems to never grow up. But that makes it the perfect family dog, devoted to the little family members. The Flat Coated Retriever is also a popular dog among hunters. They prefer it, because it loves to chase small animals and birds, and it will never let its target escape. This breed is very good at tracking scents and every agility competition. The size of the Flat Coated Retriever is large. It’s not a dog you would want in your apartment.

If you get it as a puppy, probably you and the new roommate will get used to the idea of sharing a small place. But if you think that you can make that big dog to sleep all day, you are wrong. They aren’t as popular as the Golden Retriever or the Labrador Retriever, but it seems families with little kids like them very much. The Flat Coated Retriever is a very good watch dog. It doesn’t like strangers, but it’s smart enough that when it sees that the stranger is your friend, it would never attack.

That dog is very sociable. It gets along well with other animals. There are some diseases ,your friend may have problems with. You will need to watch out for symptoms like hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, and epilepsy. The coat of the Retriever is long and you will need to brush it once or twice every day. It’s usually black or ginger in color. These dogs are very beautiful animals and with the proper training they can be the perfect hunters. The Flat Coated Retriever isn’t a pet for nervous or busy people. It will needs attention and lots of hugs.
